Recruiting is like bathing-if you don't do it all the time you begin to smell bad, so never stop looking for your next great employee. Recruit new employees in the same manner you recruit new customers - consistently and proactively. In other words, take a marketing approach to recruiting.

Be conscious of the message given by everything an applicant sees, including ads, application forms and facilities. Use every tool available to attract new employees and develop creative alternatives to the "Help Wanted" sign and classified ads.

Your current great employees are the best source for future great employees, so make a point of periodically asking them for referrals. Make sure you do everything in your power to retain your great employees, but if for any reason you lose one, make sure you keep in contact with them for future rehire or referral of other candidates.
